Do It Yourself (download installation instructions)
The arke range of the Klan and Civic spiral staircases and the Kompact and Karina modular staircases are designed as self assembly stairs. They each come with a full instruction manual and video. Many of our customers do install them themselves but we also have a professional installation team that work throughout the UK and furthermore we can be contacted directly at any time throughout the installation process for advice.
We can also provide a survey service whereby someone can come and visit you and advise on your particular dimensions and stair suitability.
The most important dimensions you need to know when thinking of a stair is the height you want the stair to be (from floor to floor) and the width/ diameter of it.
Building Regulations
All staircases whether for interior or exterior domestic use or for commercial use must comply with certain building regulations. Most of our stairs have been tested and comply with the current relevant British building regulations but some only comply in certain applications. Please feel free to contact us with any queries as some configurations and dimensions may require extra safety features.
The main points regarding stairs and regulations are as follows:-
Pitch - the angle between the pitch line (steepness of stair and the horizontal/floor line). The maximum pitch for domestic stairs is 42°,
Going - the going of a flight of stairs is the horizontal distance between the face of the first and last risers. The individual going of a step is measured from face of riser to face of riser and for domestic use should be a minimum of 220mm
Rise - the rise of a flight is the vertical distance between the floors or landings connected by the flight. The individual rise is the vertical measurement from top of tread to top of tread. The maximum individual rise for domestic flights is 220mm.
Individual Riser Height
UK Building Regulations require that each individual rise must be of equal height and fall within 170mm to 220mm. these spiral staircases can be adjusted to this full range.
Clear Width
UK Building Regulations require a minimum Clear Width on each tread of 600mm for staircases serving one room only.
All our stairs are fully adjustable to enable the necessary rise and going measurements to be made and we can also supply a number of safety features to further assist in the safest possible stair assembly.
